Healthcare Havoc

A ransomware attack on Synnovis has disrupted services across several London hospitals, including King's College Hospital, Guy's Hospital, and St Thomas' Hospital.

Occurring on June 3, the attack affected Synnovis' IT systems, particularly affecting pathology services and leading to the cancellation of surgeries and patient care redirections. The incident underscores the critical impact of cyberattacks on healthcare, threatening patient health and eroding public trust.

Despite Synnovis' significant IT investments, the attack highlights the urgent need for robust, proactive cybersecurity measures in healthcare to ensure resilience and maintain essential services.

Total Recall

A couple of weeks ago I posted a TikTok video expressing concerns over Microsoft’s new AI feature, Recall. Well, Microsoft has since announced that they will make Recall an opt-in feature following details of the feature being successfully exploited.

I think we all saw this coming but if you missed the details of this check out my first video on Microsoft’s Recall feature:

SPYder’s Web(Ex)

Cisco has fixed a flaw within WebEx that exposed government meetings to spying! The vulnerability allowed access to meeting details and metadata resulting in the exposure of sensitive data related to government and military meetings.

This highlights the challenges and immense pressure on service providers to ensure their products and services are resilient to cyber attack.

Other News

  • Apple Passwords - Apple will reportedly announce its own stand-alone password manager, Passwords, at WWDC this week. If done securely, as an Apple user myself, I’m looking forward to this as it will bring password management to the masses.

  • Drone Powered Police - A drone was deployed to investigate a 911 domestic abuse call in a San Diego suburb. Chula Vista Police Department has begun using drones for minor incidents, mass surveillance, and community outreach.

  • Sleep Screen Time - Smartphones are affecting your sleep but not because of the blue light. Anxiety-inducing content can disrupt sleep more than blue light so make sure to establish a bedtime routine that limits screen time.
